On Tuesday 19 January 2010, an MNRE’s Project Review team (Dr. Monthip Sriratana Tabucanon (Inspector General of MNRE), Mrs. Pornthip Puncharoen, Mr. Samran Rakchart, Mr. Wichien Jungrungruang, and officers from Inspecting and Assessing Division) went to the field to inspect and listen to a report on conclusive work of Mu Ko Similan National Park, Tai-muang District, Pangnga Province, which was made by Mr. Panumat Samsiniam, the Mo Ko Similan National Park Superintendent. The report was about conclusion of annual work plan of the National Park for the fiscal year 2010, categorized into 3 tasks: 1) conservation and protection of natural resources and environment, 2) technical work, and 3) service and recreational work. Problems and obstructions regarding administration and management of the National Park were also reported. The Project Review team also gave comments and recommendations regarding administration and problems of the National Park. This Project Review of the MNRE’s Project Review team was also accompanied by two Inspectors from Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservations (Mr. Surawut Tipkesorn and Mr. Pardol Thawornkritcharat) and an Inspector from Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (Mr. Supoj Chantarapornsil), who participated in the inspection and gave additional information.

On Thursday 21 January 2010, from 9 AM – 12:30 PM, the MNRE’s Project Review team (Dr. Monthip Sriratana Tabucanon (Inspector General of MNRE), Mrs. Pornthip Pancharoen, Mr. Samran Rakchat, and Mr. Wichien Jungrungraung) attended the First Round Project Review Meeting together with central organizations and regional organizations located in No. 6, No. 7, and No. 8 Project Review Zones at the meeting room in Floor 3 of Phuket Municipal Office, Muang District, Phuket Province. For the fiscal year of 2010, the MNRE’s Project Review team has 3 projects to inspect together with the Office of Prime Minister according to the Project Review Plan. The three projects are:
1. “Forest Fire Protection with People Participation” Project of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation (DNP). The operating units for the southern areas are Protected Areas Regional Offices 4, 5, and 6.
2. “Promotion of Tree Planting for Economics, Social, and Environment” Project of Royal Forest Department (RFD). The operating units for the southern areas are Protected Areas Regional Offices 11, 12, 12 (Krabi Branch), 13, and 13 (Narathiwat Branch).
3. Project to improve constructions for water utilization before transferring to local administrations. The project is under responsibility of Department of Water Resources (DWR). The operating units for the southern areas are Water Resources Regional Offices 8 and 10.
In addition, the MNRE’s Project Review team has more projects in southern areas to inspect according to the Project Review Plan of MNRE. These additional projects include:
1. Project to improve and rehabilitate natural water sources, under Department of Water Resources
2. Project to study and assess potential of groundwater source development for supporting royal initiated projects, under Department of Groundwater Resources
3. Project to prevent forest fire and control smoke and dust from forest fire, under DNP and RFD.
4. Administration and management in Pollution Control Zones, under Permanent Secretariate Office of MNRE. Operating units in southern areas are Regional Environment Offices 15 and 16, Provincial Natural Resources and Environment Offices of Phuket, Krabi, and Songkhla.
5. Project to accelerate protected area demarcation, under DNP
6. Conservative Tourism Project, under DNP
7. Project to protect and suppress forest resources encroachment, under DNP, RFD, and Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR)
For this occasion, the MNRE’s Project Review team has given recommendations about measures to operate projects efficiently, so that respected organizations can use to improve their operations and solve problems.


After that, at 1:30 PM, the MNRE’s Project Review team visited and discussed with the Phuket Governor (Mr. Wichai Praisa-ngob). Discussed issues include the project to build 3 main roads according to Phuket’s provincial policy, and forest resources encroachment in Phuket Province. Additionally, the Phuket Governor joined the MNRE’s Project Review team to observe and investigate forest encroachment and illegal forest logging in Bang Khanun Plantation, Thalang District, Phuket Province.
